What is meant by urinary incontinence ?

• It is defined as inability of the urinary bladder to retain urine.
• Many Females suffer from urinary incontinence provoked by the stress of laughing, sneezing or coughing, this is due to gynecological disorders.
• Retention with overflow leads to incontinence .
Urgency may also lead to incontinence (urge incontinence).


N.B:  Some patients have urge and stress incontinence at the same time.

Causes of urinary incontinence 

- Incoordination of bladder sphincter function in old age .
- Spinal cord trauma or compression.
- Multiple sclerosis.
- Pelvic floor damage during childbirth in females.
- Benign Prostatic hypertrophy and carcinoma in males .
